Pellet Grills

We’ve sold pellet grills for most of the last 20 years, including the popular brands. We’re also one of the few grill retailers that actually provides full warranty service for all the grills that we sell, so we know about pellet grill reliability. We’ve now stopped selling pellet grills because of their constant reliability problems and their high probability of customer frustration relative to other kinds of grills. Pellet grills are electromechanical systems that are not particularly reliable even though they have been around for 20 years. Some consumers are mechanically inclined enough to have good luck with pellet grills. Many of these customers are very happy with the smoke flavoring and slow cooking that pellet grills do well.

Too many customers however, do not have a good pellet grill experience relative to gas grill owners. Pellet grills continue to have the following limitations or problems that frustrate customers: They don’t get hot enough to really sear steaks; they have to be plugged into a 110 volt source; igniters burn out; augers jamb; burn pots become “clinkered” and don’t burn right; pellets get wet and turn to sawdust stopping fuel feeding when grills are left outside. They also require relatively complex, regular maintenance that many consumers will not do, or cannot do, even though the manual requires that the maintenance be done.

We find that consumers who want smoke flavoring and slow cooking are much happier with “Kamado” style, charcoal grills. Kamado style grills absolutely cook much better than pellet grills. They sear steaks. They cook food with more retained moisture and they easily add smoke flavor. They have no moving parts, are easier to service than pellet grills and can last a lifetime. Be sure to check out our Kamado style charcoal grills before you decide which grill to buy.
